Jamui Agboke
Jamui Agboke (b. 1989, Lagos, Nigeria) paints charged abstract landscapes that convey mutable, brooding atmospheres – akin to the moment before a storm breaks. Color palette and brushstroke allow for visual slippage and allegory, alluding to various psychological and spatio-temporal conditions. Based on landscapes that are familiar to the artist between the English countryside and his hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, the abstractions imply the movement of trees and water while evoking the artist’s recollections of displacement and immersion in nature at a young age.
Agboke has exhibited at VIN VIN Vienna (2025), Sea View, Los Angeles, CA (2024), VIN VIN, Turin, Italy (2023); White Cube, London, UK (2023); Galerie Margo, Paris, France (2023); Jack Barrett, New York, NY (2023); and VIN VIN, Vienna, Austria (2019). Agboke has a forthcoming solo exhibition at Massimo de Carlo in 2025.
